The bottomless portafilter allows you to see directly whether the grind, the amount of ground coffee and the contact pressure have been correct during the tamping process. Only then does the espresso run together into a bundled stream and offer a small picture-perfect spectacle. Without the spouts, you save even more space and can place larger cups under the portafilter.
